The Delta Queen has been a huge part of DBQ's history. I would suggest that you as the mayor, and council members create a declaration on behalf of the city and citizens of DBQ, in support of saving this piece of AMERICANA, as well as our city's history. This declaration needs to be submitted to the local representatives, and Congress, in support of the Current bill HR 3852. Representative Steve Chabot of Ohio has introduced a bill, H.R. 3852, that would exempt the Delta Queen from the provisions of the 1966 Safety at Sea Law for another 10 years and allow her to continue in operation as an overnight passenger vessel on America's inland waterways. As of this writing, co-sponsors of the bill are Representatives W. Todd Akin (MO), Richard H. Baker (LA), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Wm. Lacy Clay (MO), Jo Ann Emerson (MO), Kenny C. Hulshof (MO), Ron Kind (1IVI), Jean Schmidt (OH), Timothy J. Waltz (MN), Zach Wamp (TN), and Ed Whitfield (Kl~. As you can see there is no support from representative or congress from the following upper Mississippi river states. IOWA ILLINOIS WISCONSIN WHY? Since it has been noted that tourism equals DBQ is has become obvious it is the City's responsibility to fight this battle. Lastly, if by chance the Delta Queen gets the AXE. I know of an Ice Harbor that is losing it's gambling boat... The upper Mississippi River Museum, The Grand River Center,... The Dena Queen? A perfect fit! And oh yeah we have a former DQ calliope player living right in town, he'd surety play for little to nothing!
