Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Floodwall Pumping Station Improvement Projects Public Works Director Don Vogt is recommending acceptance of the construction contract for the Floodwall Pumping Station Improvement Projects, as completed by Kluck Construction, in the final contract amount of $465,730.81, which is a 4.3% increase from the original contract by the amount of $19,310.01. The cost increase was due to additional work at the Bee Branch and Hawthorne Street Floodwall Pumping Stations, including the removal of a utility pole (Hawthorne), the relocation of an electrical service (Hawthorne), the replacement of a transformer (Hawthorne), additions to the Bee Branch screen wall and sidewalk, and, changes to the Bee Branch platform foundation. The base bid for these combined projects provides for the purchase and installation of generators, transfer switches, generator enclosures and associated conduit and wiring for providing auxiliary power to the foodwall pumps located at the Hawthorne Street and Maus Lake pumping facilities. The projects also provide for the replacement of the 150 horsepower pump control, installation of two manual transfer switches, construction of a support wall, generator pad, concrete sidewalk, handrail, and steps, and installation of fencing at the Bee Branch pumping facility. DISCUSSION Work has been completed on the projects by Kluck Construction in the final contract amount of $465,730.81. I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and the final contract price be established at $465,730.81, which is a 4.3% increase from the original contract by the amount of $19,310.01. Contractor: Kluck Construction By: RESOLUTION NO. 527-07 ACCEPTING FLOODWALL PUMPING STATION IMPROVEMENTS AND AUTHORIZING PAYMENT TO THE CONTRACTOR Whereas, the contract for the Public Works Department Floodwall Pumping Stations Improvement Projects has been completed and the City Manager has examined the work and filed his certificate stating that the same has been completed according to the terms of the contract, plans and specifications and recommends its acceptance. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and that said improvement is hereby accepted. Section 2. The Finance Director is hereby directed to pay to the Contractor from the General Fund and the Stormwater Construction Fund equal to the final amount of this contract, $465,730.81, less any retained percentage provided for therein as provided in Iowa Code Chapter 573, and to pay such retainage only in accordance with the provisions of Iowa Code Chapter 573. Schneider, CMC, City Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 07 FINAL ESTIMATE Whereas, the contract for the Public Works Department Floodwall Pumping Stations Improvement Projects has been completed and the Public Works Director has submitted his final estimate showing the cost thereof including the cost of estimates, notices and inspection and all miscellaneous costs; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be $465,730.81 and the said amount shall be paid from the General Fund and the Stormwater Construction Fund of the City of Dubuque, Iowa.
