We write this letter to express our sincere gratitude for the assistance and support provided by the city
of Dubuque and its staff for our Iowa League of Cities Annual Conference & Exhibit September 26-
28. We had significant support throughout the planning and execution of the event by staff such as
City Manager Mike Van Milligen, Assistant City Manager Cindy Steinhauser, Public Information
Officer Randy Gehl and Leisure Services Director Gil Spence. In particular, Cindy Steinhauser dealt
with the many day-to-day details of our event over the last 12 months. In addition, myriad city staff
assisted us and supported our event through their preparation and on site assistance during the
conference and we are very grateful for the help. We also want to especially thank our council liaison,
Ann Michalski, for her wonderful assistance, guidance and suggestions throughout the planning
process and the event.
We certainly feel that the city rolled out the red carpet for our attendees and many of our members
remarked at how nice a venue we had, how great the city looked and how welcomed they felt by the
city of Dubuque and its staff. We definitely echo those remarks and feel very fortunate to have the
partnership of the city and its hard working staff to make our event happen.
Besides the overall wonderful atmosphere of the event, we also had a record turnout. We had 540 city
officials attend our conference and 950 overall conference attendees, both records for the League
conference. It would have been difficult to reach this record without the support of the city of
Dubuque and the great location to draw attendees.
Again, we express our genuine appreciation and look forward to future events in Dubuque!
