Vehicle Maintenance Activity Replacement TruckTHE CITY OF
DUB E MEMORANDUM
Masterpiece on the Mississippi
October 29, 2007
TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
SUBJECT: Vehicle Maintenance Activity Replacement Truck
Public Works Director Don Vogt recommends City Council approval to replace Public
Works Department Vehicle #3301, a'/2 ton 4-wheel drive service truck.
The Public Works Department's FY08 operating budget submittal contained a request to
replace #3301, a 1998'/2 ton, 4-wheel drive pickup truck used by the department's
vehicle maintenance activity personnel as a service vehicle. This vehicle was put into
service on November 13, 1997, and now has 84,666 "city miles" on it. The budget
request was not approved last March due to concern regarding the activity's fund
balance.
Budget Director Jenny Larson and Public Works Director Don Vogt concur that the
vehicle maintenance activity finished FY07 with a fund surplus exceeding $90,000.
Aware of this, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Kevin Cornwell has asked that #3101 be
replaced in FY08, as he had originally requested. Budget Director Jenny Larson
recently concurred with this course of action. The replacement vehicle is expected to
cost $28,500.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.
