Dear Senator Flynn:
I am writing to tell you of the City's support of a bill being considered in the House to set
the tax rate at the Dubuque Greyhound Park and Casino at 28%, except for receipts
over $70 million (which I am sorry to say Dubuque is not near that level).
This is a very important issue for the City of Dubuque and the charities in our area. The
Dubuque Racing Association has been able to distribute millions of dollars per year to
worthy groups in Eastern Iowa. This amount has begun to dwindle and is projected to
all but end when the current tax structure reaches 36%.
I believe this level of taxation will actually put the future viability of the facility at risk,
which would end all state, county and city revenues, and end the support given to
charities.
I particularly want to thank Representative Bob Osterhaus for his support of this bill in
the sub-committee formed by the House Ways and Means Committee.
