If the renovation adheres to our target deadlines staffing will be required during the last quarter of FY 09. With this in mind positions required in the renovated facility have been requested beginning in April, 2009. The staffing model calls for part-time employees to fill the following positions: Library Assistants at three Information Kiosks to cover 68 hours per week; a 3/4 time professional librarian; a Library Aide to cover the Reader's Advisory/Teen desk 68 hours aweek; apart-time intern position for a tech specialist in Tech Services, and additional hours for Library Clerks. • Improvement Packages were submitted for consideration including: ProQuest databases (Ancestory.com and New York Times); DVDs for Adult and Youth; funding for Adult Programming; increased funding for graphic novels in Children, YA, and Adult; YA Audio funding; increase in Adult books; movie license fees, and a new vacuum cleaner. • Artist John Anderson-Bricker offered to donate his exhibit designed for the Art @your library show in June of this year to the Library. The Board accepted and the steel sculptures will be located in a new reading room in the renovated facility where Technical Services is now located. The sculptures are valued at $16,000.00 • Over 300 people attended the program featuring author Christopher Paul Curtis on November 14. The Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration will be on Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 pm. Programs for children will begin at 1:00 and feature the mouse character from "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" who will read stories to the children. The annual Board-hosted holiday reception for staff and volunteers will be on Thursday, December 13 from 3:00 - 4:30 before the Board meeting. • The trend we have seen over the past two years continues with an increase in Circulation (up 2%) and a decrease in Reference questions (8%). Circulation for the month of October has surpassed any previous record. Card holders now number 44,017 with an average of 43 cards per day being issued during the 31 days of October. • The Board approved two changes to the Personnel Handbook. The first is: "Outside of employees serving in the military or on disability, medical or family leave, employees that have not worked for a period of six months will be removed from the library's payroll and be considered separated from employment with the library." The second change is the adoption of a Dress Policy. • Maynard Philips contracted work with the Library has ended. Board Member Diann Guns will take on the leadership of the capital campaign with assistance from the Board. .Library Board of Trustees Alan Avery, Board President Susan Henricks, Director Diann Guns, Vice President Kristen Smith, Board Secretary Becky Hauder Beverly Kolz Sue Lindsay Michael Shubatt
