Claim Against the City of Dubuque by Greg Droessler
Date of Claim

11 /06/07
Date of Loss

Nature of Claim
Vehicle Damage
This is a claim in which the claimant alleges that, while driving across the Rockdale
Road bridge, his truck was splattered with concrete sealer that had been applied to the
Rockdale Road bridge deck.
According to the report of John Klostermann, Street and Sewer Maintenance Supervisor
for the City of Dubuque, Public Works records indicate that during the early morning
hours of October 30, 2007, Public Works crews applied deck sealer to all of the bridge
decks maintained by the City. The sealer is applied on an annual basis to provide
protection to the concrete deck from deicers applied during winter storm events. .
It is therefore the recommendation of John Klostermann to approve this claim for the
amount of the submitted invoice of $457.96. The City Attorney's Office concurs with this
recommendation.

Dear Barry:
This letter will respond to the claim filed by Mr. Greg Droessler on November 6, 2007.
Mr. Droessler claims that his vehicle was damaged by concrete sealer that was
freshly applied to the Rockdale Road and Kelly Lane bridge decks.
Our records show that during the early morning hours of October 30~' Public Works
crews were applying deck sealer to all of the bridge decks maintained by the City.
This sealer is applied on an annual basis to provide protection to the concrete deck
from deicers applied during winter storm events. Although I know of no other
problems related to our sealing operations, it is possible that the sealer could be
tracked on to the Droessler vehicle as claimed, so I am recommending that we pay
the claim of $457.96 as filed.
Sincerely,
.~
J n Klostermann
