Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Craig Nowack, Cable N Coordinator DATE: December 6, 2007 RE: PEG Capital Grant Expenditure Request Dubuque AN-America City 2007 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this memorandum is to forward a recommendation from the Cable N Tele- Programming Commission to approve a request for funding from the Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities. BACKGROUND The Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities created by the cable franchise agreement that went into effect on June 5, 2005, began FY08 with a balance of $285,721. Quarterly adjustments and interest have added $11,293 this fiscal year. Currently there is a balance to be awarded of $113,793. At its Tuesday meeting, the Commission recommended a grant of $12,500 from this fund for Mediacom on behalf of the public access studio. This funding will allow the editing facilities there to be drastically improved by purchasing two new desktop computers and upgrades for the editing software. In addition, a laptop with editing software will be purchased that will enable edited packages to be rolled into live remote telecasts. RECOMMENDED ACTION I respectfully request that the Commission's recommendation for this request be forwarded to the City Council to receive, file, and approve. Thank you. cc: Randy Gehl, Public Information Officer Cable TV Tele-Programming Commission
