RE: Traffic Signals - Northwest Arterial Extension
Dear Mr. Kuehl:
Over the years, I have seen the destruction, both human and
property, that can be caused by failing to provide traffic lights
in certain high speed intersections. A case in point was the
intersection of John F. Kennedy and Highway 20. About 25 years
ago or so there were numerous serious accidents, including at
least one fatality. Then after all of this destruction, they
finally put traffic lights in, which substantially reduced the
incidence of serious accidents.
I suggest your agency is being shortsighted, at best, if you fail
to provide traffic control lights on the Northwest Arterial
extension, at the intersections that the City Engineer/Public
Works Director believes they should be placed.
