WHEREAS, October is National Head Start Awareness Month and 2015 marks the 50'h anniversary
of the Head Start Program; and
WHEREAS, Head Start is a federally funded program for preschoolers that supports the mental,
social and emotional development of children from birth to 5 years of age; and
WHEREAS, with 8 locations in the City of Dubuque, Head Start services are responsive to each
child's and family's ethnic, cultural, and linguistic heritage; and
WHEREAS, Head Start will hold an open house from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October
14, 2015 at Engine House Head Start, 1805 Central Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Operation: New View Community Action Agency and the Head Start program will
celebrate 50 years of serving the children of the Dubuque community by participating in
a national Head Start broadcast at 5:30 p.m.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM
THE 14TH OF OCTOBER, 2015 AS
"HEAD START DAY"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, COMMEMORATING THE SOT" ANNIVERSARY OF THE HEAD
START PROGRAM.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque to be affixed this 5th day of October 2015.
