As a lifetime Dubuquer along with being an artist, maker, inventor I have built 2 large
transportation type of sculptures which I would like to donate to the city of Dubuque for indoor
public display. The first of which is a 11 foot tall 2 wheeled bicycle type of vehicle that was the
wheels side by side and the riders ride within the spokes of the wheels. This machine has won a
365 impact award, and an international innovation contest sponsored by Boca Bearings. It has
also traveled to Black Rock City, Nevada for the Burning Man festival. The second is a more
conventional bicycle only the wheels are hubless and are 6 foot diameter, where the riders ride
within the wheel. This sculpture also has won the Boca Bearing Innovation contest in a different
year.
It would please me to see both pieces displayed within the same building but more importantly
that they are displayed in an indoor public gathering place. I am currently trying to find good
homes for my prized possessions and think the city of Dubuque would be a great caretaker. I am
hoping the city finds the unique pieces to be progressive and optimistic to reflect the city's future.
I am offering these 2 pieces to the city free of charge for as long as they are displayed indoors of
a public building for our community to experience. My health has been failing since diagnosed
with stage 4 colon cancer and am down to my last months, so would like to see progress of this
vision.
Sincerely
James D. Avery
