Library Board of Trustees Update
From the Meering ofJuly 1, 2015
Present: Mike Willis, President; Dan Boice, Secretary, and Trustees, Angela
Allred, Paula Connors, Patty Poggemiller, Jon Trotter, and Jenny Weiss
• May saw 92% of the fiscal year lapsing. Budget expenditures are at 85%
and revenue is at 95% of projections.
• Circulation of print material was down during the month of May; however,
digital materials (e Books and eAudio) checked out increased 23%.
• June shows promise of ending the year robustly. Between 350 and 400
people attended the Art @ your library event on June 5. On June 8 over
1 ,000 children registered for the summer reading program. Over 900 of
these sign-ups were done in person.
• Water remediation to the underground book drop chute and the installation
of a new materials box has been completed.
• Replacement of the flooring at the entrance to Youth Services (corridor
near the elevator) has been completed.
• RFID project has been completed.
• A new agreement has been signed with Hirschl & Adler Gallery in New
York for the Heade painting. The contract is for one year, the selling cost
will not be less than $200,000 and the commission is 20%.
• We are monitoring the HVAC. Hot and humid weather will give us better
data. The piping to AHU 5 has been changed to 2 Y2' and it is now
performing well, but since this change AHU 4 is challenged to keep up and
not giving the correct discharge air temperatures. If this continues all
piping will need to be changed.
• City staff has requested a partnership between the Library and the
Multicultural Family Center (MFC) for their public computers to fall under
the administration of the Library. This will enable the MFC to increase
access to technology for their visitors. A recommendation will be
presented to the Library Board at their next meeting.
• Discussions continued regarding the need for marketing and how best to
fund an ongoing campaign to raise awareness of what the Library offers.
The next step in this evaluation process is to investigate contracting with
an individual or hiring a firm.
• Selser-Schaefer Architects completed the review of space in the Library
and presented six locations for the Board to consider for a future Maker
Space. Two locations were identified and the architects will next create
conceptual drawings and cost estimates.
