Dear Mayor Duggan:
As you are aware, Excite@Home announced in December that it would discontinue high-speed
Internet service to subscribers across the nation. Mediacom customers in your community were affected by
the announcement because our company relied on Excite@Home for high-speed Intemet service.
We were disappointed by the unexpected developments with At Home, but we are committed to
moving customers to a new service with minimal disruption. Our company is spending millions of dollars
on our new service, Mediacom Online(sm) high-speed Intemet service, because we know that reliable high-
speed Internet service is a necessity for many people, especially those customers that we serve in your
community.
Mediacom signed agreements with leading vendors for core networking services and equipment.
Because Mediacom owns the Mediacom Online(sm) service, the company will have more control over the
service, including local connectivity to the network backbone, a Mediacom-branded portal and the e-mail
domain name.
The next step in this transition will occur fi.om Feb. t5 to 19 as we start switching customem to
Mediacom's new service, Mediacom Online(sm). This high-speed data switch wilt not affect Mediacom's
cable television service. We expect approximately 85% percent of our customers to be on our new high-
speed Interuet service by Feb. 19. We plan to complete the transition before February 28.
As always, I wanted to keep you informed of Mediacom activities of importance to your
community and your constituents. I will provide you with additional updates as the process goes forward,
and I hope you will contact me with any questions or comments you might have about this transition.
Thank you for your support of Mediacom.
