ELECTRICAL CODE BOARD

Chairperson Reiss called the meeting to order at 4:00 P.M.
Pregler moved to accept minutes of January 14, 2002 as read, seconded by
Hammel, vote was unanimous by all present.
2. The board reviewed all test scores and applications.
The board then interviewed the following applicants for licensing with the following
results:
Phillip Hildebrand
Kelly Nesmith
Nell L. Arbogast
Journeyman Electrician
Journeyman Electrician
Electrical Contractor

Hammel moved and Pfohl seconded motion to approve the above applicants and
issue licenses. Vote was unanimous in favor of motion.
The proposed state electrical licensing requirements (House File 2108) were
discussed and several areas were questioned, but no action was taken.
Dixon moved to not recommend to the City Council the administration provisions of
the International Code Council Electrical Code. Seconded by Pfohl. The discussion
centered on how similar it was to our existing electrical ordinance and that our
existing ordinance works well. "Don't fix what ain't broke." The vote was unanimous
in favor of motion.
Hamel moved to not recommend to the City Council the electrical requirements in
the 2000 International Residential Code. Seconded by Pregler. The discussion
focused on what the members thought were shortcomings in the safety
requirements, and that having two different electrical codes could lead to confusion
in a very complicated and hazardous field. Hammel amended his motion to
recommend to the City Council to not use any part of Chapters 33, 34, 35, 36, 37,
38, 39, 40, 41 or 42 of the 2000 International Residential Code. Seconded by
Pregler. The vote was unanimous yes.
Chairperson Reiss directed staff to send memo to City Council of this Board's
feelings about these two international code electrical publications.
Correspondence from staff:
Board was advised that staff has received, as of this date, 23 letters concerning
section 334.10 of the 2002 National Electrical Code, recommending that it be
strongly questioned and possibly reworded before adoption.
Board members were given copies of the National Fire Protection Association
Publication "2002 NEC Analysis of Changes" for their review and recommendations.
Next regularly scheduled meeting will be May 20, 2002 at 4:00 P.M. in Room A, City Hall.
Pregler moved to adjourn, seconded by Dixon. Approved by all. Meeting adjourned at
5:45 P.M.
