Koch, Public Works Director CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA MEMORANDUM March 11, 2002 TO: FROM: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager Michael A. Koch, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Center Grove Storm Sewer Project Acceptance INTRODUCTION The enclosed resolutions provide for the acceptance of the construction contract for the Center Grove Storm Sewer Project. DISCUSSION Work has been completed on the project by Horsfield Construction of Epworth, Iowa, in the final contract amount of $88,664.25. In the weeks preceding the project, an existing old-style curb opening catch basin, located at the site of the project, collapsed. Because Horsfield Construction was to be in the area, they were retained to rebuild the catch basin and replace the deteriorating clay connector pipe at the time of the Center Grove Storm Sewer Project. The cost to rebuild the collapsing storm sewer was approximately $10,000 and is the main reason for the cost overun reflected in the final contract with Horsfield Construction. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and the final contract to be established at $88,664.25. BUDGET IMPACT A summary of the budget costs is as follows: Bid Final Construction Contract Contingency Engineering $73,854.88 $ 88,664.25 7,638.89 0 12,604.17 12,604.17 Total Project Cost $94,097.94 $101,268.42 The project will be funded from the General Fund of a Fiscal Year 2001 appropriation of $93,000.
