Report_Library Board of Trustees 4 28 16 Carnegie-Stout Public Library Library Board of Trustees Update From the Meeting ofApril 28, 2016 Present: Jenny Weiss President; Angela Allred, Secretary; Paula Connors, Pat Maddux, Jon Trotter, and Mike Willis Excused: Patty Poggemiller, Vice President • The end of March closed the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2016, with 75% of the year lapsed. Expenditures were at 72%. Revenue collected is at 84% of projections. • The total number of checkouts shows a 2% decrease compared to the same time last year, but the number of visits is up approximately 12%. Checkouts of digital material has increased 32% compared year-to-date with last year. • The Library received a $33,000 grant from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust for the creation of a physical space in the library to house technology and craft materials. This "Maker Space" will provide access to the public to meet, collaborate and create. The City Council members will be asked to approve the project at their meeting on Monday, May 2. Grant requests and a decision from a private donor will be announced in May and, if funded, will make the project possible without relying heavily on the expenditure of trust funds. • McCullough Creative is working on the production of three radio spots. In other marketing news, the material return box at the Asbury Plaza Hy-Vee location is scheduled for a wrap, which will reflect the theme of the ad campaign. Its slogan is "From Downtown to Our Town." Banners that will be hung over the historic building entrance are in production and are expected to be installed in May. • Sharon Langel has been hired as a part-time secretary in Administration. • The Board approved the Fine Arts Policy, which was presented for review. No changes were made, except for one sentence that was modified for clarification. • Finance Director, Jean Nachtman, attended the Board of Trustees meeting and assisted in the review of the Purchasing Policy by clarifying some information and responding to questions. The Board requested a few changes and so as not to delay the policy by a month, they voted to adopt the policy with the changes discussed and give power to the Board President to make these changes and give final approval.
