RE: Mission Lifeline Award
INTRODUCTION
"Mission: Lifeline" is an American Heart Association program which is aimed at
improving the survivability of a specific type of heart attack the S-T Elevation Myocardial
Infarction (STEMI). The Dubuque fire department is being recognized with a "Silver
Award" in conjunction with this program.
DISCUSSION
The goal of Mission Lifeline is to reduce the time from recognition of the STEMI
to definitive care. Both local hospitals are AHA accredited STEMI receiving centers.
The Silver Award is given to EMS services caring for 8 or more (we had 16) patients
within a calendar year, and maintaining at least a 75% compliance rate with program
criteria. Compliance is based on the application of proper treatment procedures and
timely delivery to definitive care. A gold award is only available for two consecutive
years of silver performance.
Heather Maier, the Mission Lifeline Director for Iowa would like to present this
Silver Award at the next meeting of the City Council June 6, 2016. The presentation
would take about five minutes.
ACTION REQUESTED
I respectfully ask approval to submit this award as an item for the City Council
meeting June 6, 2016.
