FARMERS' MARKET EBT/SNAP UPDATE
1: Create a foundation of customer service for new and returning consumers by increasing waste
reduction and setup infrastructure for a centralized information center that will also house the
electronic transaction exchange station.
2: Increase the number of vendors that accept electronic transactions and provide off-season
training.
3: Implement a marketing campaign and partnering with other organizations, etc targeting low-
income low-access residents.
Objective 1 Activities:
• Hired new off ice person to organize Farmer's Market from the off ice
• Hired and trained new on-site Market Ma nage r who works on Saturday.
• Trained two new seasonal staff members to work Market Booth on Saturday mornings.
• Worki ng with ISU/Ame riCorps/Iowa Healthiest State to begin a "Kids at Market" program.We
are still looking for that person.
Objective 2 Activities:
• Our Money Ma rket/EBT- no new ve ndors signed up fo r Mo ney/Market/EBT i in Octo ber 2015. In
2015 Dubuque Farmer's market had 53 craft vendors, 215 growers and producers, 19 on site
prepared food and 9 occasional vendors. 56 vendors signed Program Agreements.
• Our goal for the 2016 Farmer's Market is to expand our Money Market/EBT ve ndors by 10 more.
Objective 3 Activities:
• Partnered with the following:
o City of Dubuque forfree bus rides with purchase of EBT coins.
o Dubuque County (Iowa State University) Extension Office for nutritional programs and
outreach to low income
o Dubuque 4-H Office for nutritional programs
o Dubuque Multi-Cultural Center for arts and cultural programs and outreach
o Dubuque Eats Well for nutritional information
• Updated website www.DubuqueFarmersMarket.org
• Created and purchased ads forfree, bi-weekly community publication
• Created and installed 30'tall banner on vacant building adjacent to market location
• Created and installed vehicle wrap for public transportation (bus)

• Created and installed billboards that rotate in preferred downtown locations
• Partnered with local community building organization to promote thefarmers' market and how
to best utilize the food available at market(classes and cooking demonstrations at market)
• Participated on two occasions as an in-station guest at four local radio stations to promote the
EBT/SNAP program
• Spoke to Women's philanthropy group about givingforthis program. We hope to partnerwith
them laterthis summer.
