Proclamation Fair Housing MonthPROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,
2002 marks the 34th Anniversary of the passage of the Federal Fair
Housing Law which, along with its subsequent amendments,
prohibits discrimination in housing, based on race, religion, sex,
national origin, disability, and familial status; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 27 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Dubuque
similarly prohibits discrimination in the area of housing; and
WHEREAS, there have been thirty-four years of progress towards Fair Housing
which is conducive towards building a nation of neighbors; and
WHEREAS, shelter is a basic human need and the quality of live is greatly
diminished when people suffer discrimination; and
WHEREAS, equal housing opportunity is a condition of life in our city that can
and should be achieved.
NOW THEREFORE, I TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF APRIL, 2002 AS:
"FAIR HOUSING MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND EXPRESS THE HOPE THAT THIS YEAR:S
OBSERVATION WILL PROMOTE FAIR HOUSING PRACTICES THROUGHOUT THE
CITY.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Dubuque, IA to be affixed this 1st
day of April, 2002.
