Proclamation Public Health WeekPROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,
over the past 50 years, the United States has achieved significant increases
in life expectancy and reductions in the incidence of injury, disability and
disease; and
WHEREAS, public health's use of population-based strategies for disease and injury
prevention, has contributed to the decline in illness and injury; and
WHEREAS,
National Public Health Week provides the focused opportunity for the public
and public health professionals to learn about public health success stories
including the elimination of polio, reduction in childhood blood lead levels,
decline in tooth decay, and continued frontline efforts to develop methods to
immunize populations against infectious disease, maintain good nutritional
standards and provide good prenatal care for everyone are primary and
preventive measures vital to healthy communities; and
WHEREAS,
National Public Health Week theme-Healthy People in Healthy Communities-
encompasses our goals as a nation to ensure that our homes,
neighborhoods and communities are places we all can thrive; and
WHEREAS,
the hardworking people that who provide public health services specifically
the Visiting Nurse Association in collaboration with area health and service
agencies, deserve appreciation for keeping our community healthy.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,
IOWA DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THAT THE WEEK OF APRIL 1-7, 2002 BE DESIGNATED
AS:
"PUBLIC HEAL TH WEEK"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Dubuque, IA to be affixed this 1st day
