Jobs; and WHEREAS, Northeast Iowa Community College continues to receive strong and ongoing support from its District residents, Board of Trustees, College Foundation, and alumni and friends; and WHEREAS, Northeast Iowa Community College honors the legacy of its past while continuing its mission to provide accessible, affordable, quality education and training to meet the needs of its communities through core values of: Service, Respect, Innovation, Stewardship and Integrity. NORTHEAST IOWA COMMUNITY COLLEGE History • The College formed in February 1966 shortly after the May 1965 passage of the Iowa Community Colleges' bill SF550. • Known then as Area One Vocational -Technical School, the College began with 170 students in 12 programs in fall of 1967. • In 1979 Area One changed its name to Northeast Iowa Technical Institute and established the Peosta Campus. • In 1988, the College was authorized to award AA, AS, and AAS degrees as well as diplomas and certificates and changed its name to what we now know it as, Northeast Iowa Community College. • The College has since expanded to include 6 centers, a service location in New Hampton, the region's Small Business Development Center, the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety and Iowa's Dairy Center. • In fall 2011, the Aspen Institute Community College Excellence Program named Northeast Iowa Community College to the list of top ten community colleges in the nation for the College's successful graduate outcomes, academic excellence and community impact. Did You Know? • Northeast Iowa Community College serves 8 counties over more than 5,000 square miles, including 24 school districts • Approximately 597 residents are employed by the College • Northeast Iowa Community College offers more than 85 programs of study, 12 of which are offered completely online • The College boasts 4 Iowa Professor of the Year awards from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (more than any other higher education institution in Iowa) and a 2014 ACCT Central Regional Faculty Award (Paul Kimball, science instructor). • The College has inducted 59 outstanding alumni into the Northeast Iowa Community College Hall of Fame since 2007. • Approximately 7,000 students enroll in academic programs each year. • Students enjoy a 14:1 student -faculty ratio. • Business and Community Solutions serves an additional 22,000+ students and clients per year through more than 36,000 course registrations. • More than 400 students access HSED (formerly GED), English language or Adult Basic Education courses in 2013-2014. • 2,740 high school students took college coursework in FY14, saving their families an estimated $10.8 million in tuition. • 95% of 2014 graduates were employed or continuing their education within 6 months. • Since 1985, Northeast Iowa Community College has helped secure $86 million in state job training assistance for 28,324 new and incumbent workers in the district. Box400 Calmar, IA 52132 800.728.2256 563.562.3263 Peosta Campus 8342 NICC Drive Peosta, IA 52068 800.728.7367 563.556.5110 5.4.2016_EVT.50th.Communication.Ta IkingPoints Dubuque • From 2014-2015,1 in 10 residents of Dubuque County were served by Northeast Iowa Community College. • 2,639 students enrolled at the Peosta campus. • 2,597 Dubuque county students enrolled in 34,785 college credits through Northeast Iowa Community College. • 780 area high school students earned 5,323 college credits through Northeast Iowa Community College and saved their families an estimated $2,720,851 in tuition. • Since 1985, state training assistance in the amount of $55,635,019 has been secured for Dubuque County businesses in support of 13,759 new and existing jobs. • From 2014-2015, the Dubuque Center and Town Clock Business Center served 4,684 students in 162 unique courses. • In partnership with Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, Dubuque Works, East Central Intergovernmental Agency, Dubuque Community School District, Project HOPE and the business partners, Northeast Iowa Community College launched the Opportunity Dubuque program in January 2013. Opportunity Dubuque was developed in response to local employers' needs for a skilled workforce in advanced manufacturing, and qualifying applicants in the program may complete a career pathway certificate at the College to enhance their skills and employability. • Through the Re-engage Dubuque program and the Dubuque Community School District, career coaches at the Dubuque Center have expanded their community outreach in city neighborhoods to connect students who have stopped out of high school without having earned a diploma. The Re-engage Dubuque program re-establishes the students in a high school or encourages their enrollment in the NICC high school equivalency diploma program. • The Town Clock Business Center is a professional training hub for thousands of students, community members and partnering businesses each year. Located on Main Street adjacent to the Dubuque Center, this facility is home to the College's Business and Community Solutions division in Dubuque and is a full-service learning and conference center offering a wide array of non-credit personal and professional development opportunities. The center also provides customized sessions for business, organization or community groups. • The College created the Outdoor Learning Lab at the Peosta campus in 2007, an ecosystem reconstruction project that includes four separate seven -acre ecosystems featuring native flora and fauna: forest, savanna, prairie and wetlands. The lab is free and accessible for schools, students and the community. 2007 Bond Passage Through the bond levy's passage in 2007 with your support, Northeast Iowa Community College has: • Constructed a state-of-the-art Industrial Technologies Building at the Peosta campus that provides the community with the training and resources they need to obtain advanced manufacturing employment in Peosta and northeast Iowa. • Received the honor of an Advanced Manufacturing Sector of Excellence Leader by the U.S. Department of Labor in 2015. • Created Open Lab spaces in computer numerical control (CNC) machining, as well as a new Metal Working Apprenticeship program developed in Fall 2015, to train students for well -paying, secure employment in our local area and to serve the training needs for businesses in Dubuque County. • Renovated and made upgrades to the Dubuque Center in 2014 to modernize the facility and make more accessible and welcoming for all visitors, community members and students. • Completed extensive renovations and remodeling work at the Dubuque Center in August 2013 to support the College's Success Model for students, make the entrance and foyer more welcoming for visitors, and to ensure that the entire facility is Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.
