Update_Library Board of Trustees 6 23 16 Carnegie-Stout Public Library Library Board of Trustees Update From the Meeting ofJune 23, 2016 Present: Jenny Weiss President; Patty Poggemiller, Vice President; Angela Allred, Secretary; Paula Connors, Pat Maddux, Jon Trotter, and Mike Willis • The end of May marked 91 % of the fiscal year lapsing. Expenditures were at 89%. Revenue collected is at 93% of projections. Revenue is estimated to come in under projections for FY 2016. This is because we have implemented an early intervention program for the collection of fines and fees with the collection agency, Unique Management. Reminding people early and at lower dollar amounts results in greater success for the return of materials, but does lower the total collected for fines and fees. The operating budget is expected to come in under budget and will more than compensate for decreased revenue, which is expected to fall short around $4,000. • During the first week of the summer reading program 1 ,456 children and 254 teens registered. The Youth Services Activity is involved in several outreach programs as well, such as the Summer Reading Academy in partnership with the Dubuque Community School District and other organizations. • The maker space project was approved to move forward after the Board reviewed bids and the Operations Committee met with Mr. Ron Richard of Tri- Con Construction. Presently the schedule has the project completing on October 10. The Iowa Library Association Conference Reception is planned for October 12. The schedule must be watched very closely. • Personnel update: There is a vacancy in Administration for a part-time secretary. We will advertise for a Confidential Account Clerk rather than a secretary as this better describes the position. Scott Schlichte has been hired as I.T. Supervisor filling a vacancy that occurred when Jason Burds accepted a position in City Information Services. Andrew Fuerste-Henry is moving out of state in mid-July and the recruitment process for this upcoming vacancy is taking place presently. • The Library Board of Trustees reviewed and approved two new policies covering: Interlibrary Loan and Lost and Found, as well as two existing policies that have been updated: Listening/Viewing and Patron Behavior.
