Re: PINE CHAPEL PROJECT
Dear Friend of the Mines of Spain,
The Junkermann Chapel, located in the Mines of Spain Recreation Area in the EB
Lyons Mature Preserve has major roof deterioration. The guidelines under the National
Register of Historic Sites (circa 1860's) would require a roof of cedar shakes and the
possibility of replacing needed laths. The Pine Chapel was built in,the 1860's by Otto
Junkermann to resemble a church that he attended as a child in Germany. It is located
next to pine trees on the property.
Our project needs to be taken care of quickly. The amount needed to complete this
project would be around $17,000. The cost is high due to using longer lasting shakes
and the chapel's location which is far from the roadway. There is great significance in
preserving this chapel both historically and educationally. It is viewed bythousands
annually.
When complete a donor plaque will be placed inside the chapel with all heartfelt
donations of$250 or more.
Please be generous with your donations to this project so we can see this completed
this year before any further damage occurs. What a joy it will be in restoring this historic
feature from the past. All the Mines of Spain Friends Board members thank you in
advance.
Sincerely,
-
