ITEM TITLE: Kayla Banwarth Day(August 25, 2016) SUMMARY: SUGGESTED DISPOSITION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Type Kayla Banwarth Day Proclamation Supporting Documentation THE CITY OF L 0 DUBBf&E Masterpiece on the Mississippi P_11DX0CLAMAT10N Whereas, Kayla Banwarth was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa, where she attended Wahlert Catholic High School, became athree-time State Volleyball Champion, and holds the school's record for digs and aces; and Whereas, Kayla is a three-time Iowa Volleyball Player of the Year and the 2006 Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year; and Whereas, while attending the University of Nebraska, Kayla was afour-year starter, an NCAA Tournament Final Four player and holds the University's record for digs; and Whereas, Kayla became a member of the USA Women's National Volleyball Team and was the team's Most Improved Player for 2013; and Whereas. Kayla is the fourth Olympian from Dubuque, the first female medalist from Dubuque, and the first medalist from Dubuque in 88 years. She is the only Iowan ever to medal in volleyball — beach or indoor — and is credited with the most digs for Team USA in the 2016 Olympics; and Whereas, Kayla Banwarth won a Bronze Medal as a member of the USA Women's Olympic Volleyball Team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE 25T" DAY OF AUGUST 2016, AS "KAYLA BANWARTH DAY)) IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
