08_08_08 Discover Dubuque 175 Proclamation
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in 1788 Julien Dubuque discovered a territory that would later bear
his name; and
WHEREAS, in 1833 miners discovered the area that would cause it to prosper;
and
WHEREAS, in 1837 settlers discovered Dubuque and incorporated what would
become the oldest city in Iowa; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, America discovered Dubuque when it received the coveted
and rightly deserved All America City Award.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
WITH THE POWER VESTED IN ME DO HEREBY PROCLAIM AUGUST 8-10, 2008
AS:
“DISCOVER DUBUQUE DAYS”
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, IN CELEBRATION OF THE 175 YEARS OF
RICH HISTORY AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY THAT DEFINE A TRUE
MASTERPIECE ON THE MISSISSIPPI.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the
Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 8th day of August,
2008.
