No person in Dubuque should be stigmatized, discriminated against or isolated because they are hungry or homeless; and WHEREAS, multiple local organizations, government agencies, churches, and religious organizations compassionately respond to the needs of those experiencing hunger and homelessness with food, clothing, shelter, services and permanent housing. The Homeless Advisory Coalition meets regularly to collaborate and coordinate services; and WHEREAS, Dubuque joins many other communities across the United States in observing "Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month." In recognition of this month, many community organizations and agencies have assisted in planning fundraisers and events to promote greater awareness of homelessness that is in our neighborhoods. WHEREAS, These collaborative organizations have joined together to organize a free event called "The Sleep Out" which includes an interactive discussion with the community involving barriers, community perceptions and solutions to combating the homelessness epidemic in Dubuque. This event will be held at Washington Park, located at 700 Locust St., Dubuque on Friday November 18th, beginning at 7 p.m. and ending around 6 a.m. on Saturday November 19t". HUNGER m HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEED RESOLVEij , POVEPTXY Begins Friday November 18th 7pm at Washington Park (700 Locust Street) and ends on Saturday November 19th at 6am. There will be soup, hot chocolate, coffee, and water available. We will have cardboard boxes to sleep in if you choose to sleep out, or you can bring your own tent, sleeping bag, etc. Also please feel free to bring camping chairs. While sitting around a nice warm fire, we will be having discussions on homelessness along with activities, speakers to share their journey through homelessness, and an item drive for the programs that serve the homeless populations in our community. —Items to bring as donations for our local homeless services— Liquid Laundry Detergent, Toilet Paper, General Cleaning Products **Please RSVP for this event by providing if you would like to sleep out or just stop by to participate and your contact information to ibleile@openingdoorsdbg.org.
