SUBJECT: Request to Create the Position of Urban Forester and Eliminate the
Position of Forester
DATE: October 24, 2016
Due to the upcoming vacancy in the Forester position, Leisure Services Manager Marie
Ware and Park Division Manager Steve Fehsal have revised the job description and are
requesting that the position be retitled as Urban Forester.
Personnel Manager Randy Peck recommends City Council approval of the elimination
of one Forester position and the creation of one Urban Forester position in the Leisure
Services Department. The rate of pay for the new classification would be the same as
Forester.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

Due to an upcoming vacancy in the Forester position, Leisure Services Manager Marie
Ware and Park Division Manager Steve Fehsal have revised the job description for this
position. In addition, they are requesting that the position be retitled as Urban Forester.
This is a Civil Service classification and the Civil Service Examination would be an
entrance examination. An entrance examination means the position is open to current
City employees and the general public. The rate of pay for the new classification would
be the same as Forester. The requested action is for the City Council to approve a
motion eliminating one Forester position and creating one Urban Forester position in the
Leisure Services Department.
