RE: Heritage Trail
Dear Brian,
The City of Dubuque is pleased to offer our support for the Dubuque County
Conservation Board's application for a Federal Recreation Trail Grant for $100,000.00.
This grant money will be combined with local infrastructure source funds to replace
three deteriorating bridges on the Heritage Trail.
The Dubuque County Heritage Trail offers a safe and accessible route through
picturesque open space corridors, with scenic views of woodlands, farmland and
limestone bluffs. It provides links to open space amenities along its 26-mile length and
at its termini. It is a valuable recreational and tourism resource for the tri-state area. Re-
establishing its continuity with the replacement of these is vital.
The 2012 City of Dubuque Comprehensive Plan contains goals and objectives for
maintaining existing bike/hike trails and creating a comprehensive bicycle and
pedestrian network throughout the community. The Dubuque County Heritage Trail is
an important connection for the City to accomplish these goals and objectives. This
project will safely re-connect the 30-mile Heritage Trail between the Cities of Dyersville
and Dubuque.
Sincerely,
Michael C. Van Milligen
